Martyna Gibka is a literary onomastician. She defended her PhD thesis "The functions of characters’ proper names in a novel. A theoretical approach and its application" at the University of Gdańsk in 2017. She is currently leading two international onomastic projects: "A pre-handbook on literary onomastics" and "Terry Pratchett: A Literary Onomastician". She aims to develop translation onomastics, create practical onomastic tools for literary translators and discover the cognitive nature of each funtion and its reciption.
She works at the Koszalin University of Technology in the Faculty of Modern Languages and Social Communications. She tries to popularise onomastics and organises the conference "Young Philologists of the 21st Century".
